“The true strength of the cast is Anna Pirozzi, taking on one of the most difficult roles in the entire Puccini repertoire. Pirozzi […] possesses the necessary tools to confidently overcome the numerous vocal challenges of the score, especially in the upper register, where her voice maintains solidity, breadth, and resonance. But it is above all in the more lyrical moments that the singer shows a remarkable capacity for modulation. In Laggi\u00f9 nel Soledad<\/em> she finds softer, more yielding accents, while in the second act, the scene with Johnson acquires an authentically romantic tension. The great poker scene, with its progressive reversal of fortunes, is tackled with absolute confidence.”

Furthermore, her conversational phrasing is incisive and rich in nuances, characteristic of a performer at the absolute peak of her expressive maturity.”

“Anna Pirozzi\u2019s vocal qualities […] prove optimal for mastering Minnie\u2019s score, delivering a performance that is credible and almost ideal from the first to the last note\u2014a rarity among all interpreters of this role, including the most historical and celebrated ones. Her bel canto<\/em> background allows Pirozzi to navigate the bizarre coloratura passage ‘Oh, se sapeste’ with natural suppleness (a section where heavier voices often flounder), rendering an inherently ungraceful musical number genuinely pleasant. At the same time, the three explosive B-flats unleashed by the soprano over the majestic orchestral hurricane created by Galli in the final bars of the second act are worth the evening alone.
