Anna Pirozzi continues her performances at the Bastille Theater with another Verdi role, Leonora in Il Trovatore. Verdi adapted El Trovador, a play by the Spanish playwright Antonio García Gutiérrez, which aroused only moderate enthusiasm from Salvatore Cammarano, its librettist. Hence perhaps an incredible plot, marked by the curse of a gypsy against the backdrop of medieval Spain and troubadours. However, Verdi manages to transcend this story of love and death through the dizzying beauty of the song and particularly inspired music, which has become a mainstay of the repertoire since its creation in 1853.
