In the month of Mirella Freni’s birth and debut, the Mirella Freni Association officially inaugurates the first edition of the “Mirella Freni” Award, which will be held on Saturday 21 February 2026 at 5.30 pm in the foyer of the Pavarotti-Freni Theatre (Via Goldoni 1).

For this inaugural edition, the Association has chosen to award the Mirella Freni Lifetime Achievement Award to soprano Anna Pirozzi.

“Currently one of the most successful sopranos on the international scene, Anna Pirozzi is a valuable example for future generations of artists. Her career is driven by extraordinary determination. Despite starting her studies late, she did not give in to difficulties, facing a long apprenticeship with a spirit of sacrifice.

From the stages of the Metropolitan in New York to the Royal Opera House in London and La Scala in Milan, she has played iconic roles such as Turandot, Abigaille and Lady Macbeth, becoming a benchmark for the Italian tradition of opera singing.

What really brings her close to the spirit of Mirella Freni is her profound humility. Despite her worldwide triumphs, she shuns any diva-like behaviour and always declares herself ready to learn from everyone.”
