Anna Pirozzi’s debut at Torre del Lago found the soprano (who was presented with the Puccini Prize at the end of the performance) in excellent shape on the whole, with a remarkable upper octave of volume and sound projection and a metal in the high notes of superfine quality, so much so that the most naive and enthusiastic part of the audience invented an unprecedented and inopportune applause halfway through “In questa reggia”. The phrasing, then, is that of an artist of the highest level and even the not inconsiderable descents into the lower register envisaged by the part are handled with taste and shrewdness, without ever opening up the sound. It is a pity that such a singer has not also heard the finale, any of it.
